Specialty Books for the Month

Each month at book club we are going to have a specialty book or books, for example in December we will have a holiday book. This month I chose a book series.
It is a fairly easy read, historical novels based on the bible. The stories are great and the characters are interesting.
Chronicles of the Kings Series by Lynn Austin
1.. Gods and Kings
2. Song of Redemption
3. The Strength of His Hand
4. Faith of My Fathers
5. Among the Gods
Quick Summary: Following the lives and legacies of King Hezekiah and his son Manasseh, this series takes readers through the history, drama and promises of the Old Testament. Embracing God's law, following God's will, and growing in faith is easier said than done for the father and son.

The Books to Check out this Month!

Our fiction this month is The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. It is my reccomendation which came from my mother. This book is the only one published by this author and I think she is a great writer. The book is described as a gothic suspense novel. The author does a great job decribing things so well that you feel as though you are there with her and the mystery involved it gripping.
Brief Summary: A famous author, Vida Winters, invites an amateur biographer, Margaret, to come and write her never before told story of her life. While deciding if she should write Miss Winter’s personal story, Margaret begins to read her father’s rare copy of Miss Winter’s Thirteen Tales of Change and Desperation. She is spellbound by the stories and confused when she realizes the book only contains twelve stories. Where is the thirteenth tale? Intrigued, Margaret agrees to meet Miss Winter and act as her biographer.

The Non Fiction is Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Relin. I have heard it was so good so we are trying it. There seems to be mixed feelings for the main guy aparently you either really relate and love him or you don't.
Summary:One Man's Mission to Promote Peace ... One School at a Time

We decided on running things more as a review group, so each month we will have a few quick reviews of new books to check out as well as chat time about the past months books. Since there is a month in between meetings and such a wide varity of books we are planning on having a few books spotlighted each time from different categories. Watch for the review and postings of book list we discussed. Please comment on anything you have read or email me with recomendations.

The Hunger Games

I recently finished the last of the Hunger Games series by Susan Collins. I loved the first 2 books and think she is a great writer, very easy to read but the last book left me kinda disappointed. Don't get me wrong it was still worth the read but it didn't turn out like I wanted. Have you read it? What did you think?
